Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
