Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
