Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
