Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems after leaving the playing area on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the series in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost key quicks one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and promptly felt at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the previous Test.
