Trump's Business Attempted to Hire Almost 200 Employees on Work Permits in 2025

Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, while his administration was creating barriers for other companies attempting to do the same, a report released Thursday stated.

Based on information from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization aimed to bring in at least nearly 200 overseas employees in 2025 for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, golf facilities and his winery in Virginia.

The number of requests for H-2A and H-2B visas covering staff including servers, clerks, cleaning staff, culinary employees and farm workers was the record submitted by the company, and increased from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.

It was also the fifth instance in a decade that the former president had attempted to hire more than 100 foreign employees for seasonal jobs at Mar-a-Lago, based on available data.

The disclosure comes amid a tightening on legal immigration by his government that has included the implementation of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who already hold US visas; and tighter regulations for foreign students and journalists.

In total, the business sought to hire 566 overseas workers over the five years Trump has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.

Notably, the former president was questioned by certain in the Republican party this period for comments justifying the need for foreign workers when a company was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill certain positions.

“You cannot just say a country is coming in, going to invest billions to construct a plant, and going to take people off an jobless roster who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start making their missiles. It isn’t feasible that effectively,” he stated to a interviewer after she suggested that foreign workers undercut the pay of US workers.

The administration refused a request for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
