McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they currently sit twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this job like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is inclined to finish the current global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, should they not finish as their group second place.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
